Disability Alliance B-C says it’s concerned that the order from B-C’s top doctor requiring people wishing to access certain indoor social and recreational settings to get vaccinated against COVID-19 does not have exceptions on medical grounds.
The alliance says the use of vaccine passports with no exceptions for people who cannot get their shots due to a medical condition is discriminatory, and it believes the province is obligated under the Canadian Charter to accommodate their rights.
It says implementing exemptions for the comparatively small number of people who cannot get vaccinated on medical grounds should not negatively affect the province’s goal of boosting immunization to reduce transmission of the illness.
The alliance adds that it believes everyone who can get vaccinated should get vaccinated to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
