The high-profile extradition case of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou has wrapped up after close to three years of legal arguments.
The case is set return to B-C Supreme Court in October, when the judge is expected to reveal a date for her decision on the abuse of process claims made by Meng’s lawyers — and whether the executive should be extradited to the U-S to face fraud charges based on allegations that both she and Huawei deny.
Still, the final decision on Meng’s extradition lies with Canada’s justice minister.
Meng’s arrest at Vancouver airport in 2018 at the request of the United States has soured Canada’s relationship with China, and the subsequent detention of Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig is widely seen as retaliation.
