The first full day of campaigning for the upcoming flash Federal Election resulted in the party leaders giving out their latest economic pledge on what they will do to help the country recover from the pandemic.
Justin Trudeau’s Liberals stated that they would be extending a hiring credit that they first revealed in their latest budget until March of next year. They also made a promise to give extra support to industries hit hardest by the pandemic like Tourism and Live theatre.
Erin O’Toole and the Conservatives are looking to create jobs by spending money in the immediate future and balance the budget by 2031 as well as replacing the Liberal’s child-care system with a tax credit system that aims to help families with lower incomes cover up to 75 percent of their day care costs.
Jagmeet Singh and the NDP’s goal is to raise taxes for the wealthy in order to create jobs that pay better for regular citizens.
The Bloc Québécois spent most of their campaign time criticizing Trudeau and the Liberals for not producing a lot of COVID vaccines as their leader, Yves-Francois Blanchet, stated that it was important for Quebec to have in province production of the vaccine over having to rely on a foreign company.
Green Party Leader Annamie Paul used her time to ask for the construction of new pipelines to end and for Fracking, Oil and Gas exploration to stop with it so Canada can cut down on greenhouse gas emissions and try to reshape the economy.
