Chilliwack’s Emily Loewen is living proof that one person, regardless of their size, is able to make a big difference in the world.
When a wildfire wiped out the village of Lytton back in the early part of July, the nine-year-old wanted to help out. She started with a lemonade stand, asking for $2 a cup, and it just grew from there.
When Emily poured her last cup of lemonade just a few days ago, the final fundraising number stood at $3,400.
Yesterday, while sitting at the same table at the same corner where she began raising that money, at Charles Street and First Avenue, Loewen presented what she had raised to the mayor of Lytton, Jan Polderman.
Polderman has returned to Lytton a few different times since the town was evacuated and then burned down on June 30. And during this dark time for his town and citizens, Polderman stated that he’s been floored by the response of the community, and Loewen’s donation is a very heartwarming example of that.
