65 wildfire evacuation orders remain in place across B-C — including an order imposed Sunday by the Regional District of Central Okanagan affecting more than 500 properties along one flank of a wildfire northwest of Vernon — but many other orders and alerts have been downgraded over the last day.
Residents of 170 properties in the community of Spences Bridge have been told they can go home as of noon, today — ending an evacuation order issued almost two weeks ago.
An evacuation order was also downgraded to an alert this morning for 32 properties near Sicamous whose residents were ordered to leave two weeks ago because of a blaze near that Shuswap community — and orders were lifted for 152 homes around Fauquier along Upper Arrow Lake in the Kootenays.
And, for the first time in a month, hundreds of residents on properties west of Savona will be allowed to return home tomorrow as the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and Skeetchestn Indian Band replace evacuation orders with alerts — reflecting progress battling the 685-square kilometre Sparks Lake wildfire.
