More than 100 firefighters from Quebec have arrived in B-C as the province continues to battle nearly 300 wildfires in hot, dry conditions with no relief in sight.
A crew of 100 from Mexico is also due on the weekend and a military contingent is now in the north Okanagan in advance of deployment to various fires.
Emergency Management B-C says more than five-thousand properties across the province are under evacuation orders — up from about 43-hundred yesterday.
But an evacuation order for nearly 200 properties along the Slocan River has been downgraded to an alert for most residents and alerts have been lifted for the Resort Municipality of Sun Peaks and several surrounding areas north of Kamloops.
Highway 1 north of Hope has also reopened three weeks after it was cut off by a wildfire that destroyed most of the village of Lytton.
