The Young Lake wildfire has expanded to cover more than 2,631 hectares, prompting the Thompson-Nicola Regional District to put out an evacuation order for around 103 properties that are located in the Bonaparte Plateau.
The District is asking those in the area of the evacuation order to leave immediately, but they also warned there is a “critical shortage” of commercial lodging available in Kamloops and the rest of the region. The fire is located 35 kilometres southeast of 70 Mile House.
The BC Wildfire Service said increased fire behavior back on Sunday night made the fire move about four kilometres to the northeast. BCWS personnel were onsite on Tuesday and managed to establish structure protection on three structures. Air tankers were also at the site but were unable to act because of poor visibility.
