The 94 ILWU Local 505 workers that were suspended for refusing to cross a picket line in protest of an Israeli-linked container ship have had their suspension reduced from 4 days without pay to one.
In a letter from manager of yard and gate for DP World, Ian Robinson to Local 505 president Jimmy Andriff, Robinson stated that, “After reviewing the circumstances of June 15 and 16, DP World Prince Rupert and ILWU Local 505 have agreed on a without prejudice or precedent basis to mitigate the discipline imposed on the 94 employees and reduce the suspension from three days to one for failing to show to work …”
The reduced suspension held validity from 4:30 pm on June 22 to 4:30 on June 23rd.
As previously reported, those 94 workers were suspended on June 21 for refusing to cross a picket line set up by demonstrators protesting the Israeli-linked container ship JPO Volans. The Volans had been refused entry into Oakland California, and Vancouver for the unloading of it’s cargo before making its way to Prince Rupert to attempt to unload.
