The Dease Lake Airport is getting an $11-million upgrade.
The bulk of the funding, $9-million, comes from the province’s economic recovery fund for airport upgrades. The remaining $2-million comes from the regional district of Kitimat-Stikine, and several companies that operate within Tahltan territory.
According to a statement from the Tahltan Central Government, the upgrades will enhance emergency services for the people who live in the area by allowing 24-hour take-offs and landings at the airport, as well as lead to better access for mineral exploration and the mining sector. The statement also says more than half of the province’s mineral exploration spending takes place in the region.
