Four communities in the Northern and Interior regions of B.C. have been approved to receive funding to support flood mitigation.
The funding is more than $8.5 million and will support structural flood mitigation projects, improve the communities ability to be resilient and prepared in an emergency. The communities receiving the funding are , Dawson Creek, Williams Lake, Vernon and Sparwood.
As an example of work that will be taking place as a result of this fund, Vernon has been approved to receive $747,000 to construct a sedimentation pond. Dawson Creek is set to receive $750,000 to replace the 102nd Avenue Crossing. Williams Lake will be getting $750,000 as well for the River Valley Wastewater Treatment Plan/Jackpine Slide Erosion Protection.
The next deadlines to apply for the program are, February 26, for flood risk assesment, flood mapping and flood mitigation planning. As well as on March 26 for Emergency operations centres and training
