Rally held today in Williams Lake to oppose provincial plans to cull moose cows and their calves.
First Nations Chiefs, local hunters, guide outfitters, members of agricultural communities and civic representatives rallied in Williams Lake to protest the provincial government’s plans to cull 400 moose cows and their calves in an effort to starve off wolf populations.
Dan Simmons long-time activist and organizer of the Cow Moose Sign Project said in a news release, “Moose populations are declining all across the province and it is completely irresponsible for the provincial government to issue limited entry hunting tags for moose cows and their calves without consulting anyone.”
Simmons is also calling for the cancellation of the open season and unrestricted hunt for calves that runs from October 1 to 25 in designated areas.
