The United States is lifting a 10 per cent tariff on Canadian aluminum.
The office of the U.S. Trade Representative says it will lift the tariffs retroactive to Sept. 1 because it expects Canadian exports to normalize in the last four months of the year. In a statement, the USTR says if shipments exceed 105 per cent for any month over the four month period then the United States will impose the 10 per cent tariff retroactively on all shipments made in that month.
The United States will consult with the Canadian Government at the end of the year to review the state of the trade as well as expected market conditions for 2021.
