Provincial government delaying tax changes in response to Covid-19

The province is delaying the implementation dates for changes to the provincial sales tax and the carbon tax until Apr. 2021.

This is in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing families and businesses to recover. The scheduled increase in April of this year from $40 to $45 per tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent has been paused until at least October, as part of the Covid-19 Action Plan. The carbon tax is set to increase to $50 in April of 2022.

To further support businesses, the employer health tax quarterly instalment dates are being extended as follows, Dec. 31 2020, Jan. 31, 2021 and Feb 28, 2021.
