Early this morning Prince George RCMP received a report of a missing kayaker on the Willow River, east of Prince George. Two adult males set out to kayak a portion of the river on Tuesday. The planned route was an approximate 30 kilometre stretch ending where the river intersects Highway 16. One of the kayakers failed to arrive at this location.
RCMP went to the scene in an effort to locate the man. Emergency Management B.C. was contacted and Prince George Search and Rescue were mobilized. Officers continued patrols throughout the night. RCMP and Search and Rescue Air 3 helicopter began its search efforts at first light. At approximately 8:30 a.m. personnel onboard the helicopter located the man alive.
Although he appeared to have no major injuries he was still airlifted to meet with paramedics to be medically assessed. RCMP is reminding everyone that incidents like this should be a reminder that river systems in the area are very high and very fast moving.
