Frank Parnell was a member of the Haida Nation.
A very kind and respectful soul, his many contributions to our community included time as a Board member and as the Board President of CFNR, and many years as a Board member of the All Native Tournament.
We have lost a great leader, visionary, and human being.
Frank Parnell passed away suddenly on May 21, 2020 due to medical complications at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital.
We send our heartfelt condolences to Caroline, Jason and Roddy; to his grandchildren Angela and Kwiiaas; and Frank’s immediate and extended family. Today you have lost husband, father, brother, Chinny, and we have all lost a great friend.
Over the years, he was able to bring nations together to work on important issues and always on common ground.
Frank had many achievements as he was involved with many organizations across BC over the years. Frank showed his ability to bring his dreams for indigenous entrepreneurs to fruition, including helping to launch Tricorp in 1989 and its CEO since inception.
During this time, he gained great respect and made many great friends.
Frank also received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Victoria, which speaks volumes in recognition of his lifetime achievements. He was very honoured and humbled to be recognized for his life long work.
Heartfelt thanks to Caroline, Frank’s wife, for sharing him with everyone for all these years, travelling, attending meetings and for his tireless work.
We acknowledge his life long work of creating opportunities for our Indigenous people in the Northwest region. He will be missed by many.
