Premier John Horgan, joined by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix outlined the plan moving forward to reopening.
B.C.’s restart plan is aimed at moving towards the new normal. The restart will happen in phases for 2 to 4 weeks, areas of focus include personal care, social interaction and phasing in various businesses.
Currently, we are in phase 1 because B.C. did not go through a total shutdown. In the coming weeks B.C. will move into the next phase that includes following five key principles: practicing good personal hygiene, staying home if you’re sick, environmental hygiene, safe social interactions and physical modifications. This phase can include small gatherings with various businesses opening back up. This would also bring the return of the legislature. Horgan says this will not be a flip of the switch, we will be proceeding carefully bit by by, following advice of the Provincial Health Officer.
The third step will happen based on how the virus acts, if things are looking positive we may see more opening up. Phase four includes large gatherings and events which will not happen until a vaccine is created.
In a joint statement by B.C. Health Officials there are 23 new cases of Covid-19 bringing the provincial total to 2255. There are now 179 total cases in Interior Health and 54 total cases in Northern Health, a slight increase since yesterday.
