BC First Nations representatives want Ottawa to do more to protect vulnerable First Nations communities from COVID-19.
The First Nations Leadership Council says systemic social and economic inequalities will make Indigenous people and other marginalized communities more susceptible to the virus.
The Council wants to see more testing, strict screening at airports and border, and closing bars, nightclubs, and theatres to protect service workers.
It also calls for an EI benefit plan so that all employees and families can get paid, protected sick leave and other supports.
BC Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief Terry Teegee says the country must act in a collective fashion to ensure the most vulnerable are protected from the spread of the virus.
