The three Nisga’a Urban locals, Ts’amiks, Gitmaxmakay and Gitlaxdax announced the successful completion of the first meeting of the Nisga’a Urban Alliance.
After a full day session a list of shared priorities was generated. This list includes, establishing quarterly meetings of the alliance, investigating establishing a joint charitable foundation to be eligible for more grants and be able to issue tax receipts and partner on economic development to be more self sufficient. The list also included issues like, housing for homeless, partnering on health and wellness initiatives in collaboration with Nisga’a Valley Health Authority and partnering on language, culture and youth for program and service delivery.
The next meeting will be held in Prince Rupert on May 22 of this year.
