It’s a sign of things to come.
Coastal GasLink says the first segments of pipe for its gas pipeline project have started to be delivered at storage sites along the route.
It says the move is in anticipation of ramped up construction of the line later next year.
The company says steel pipe is one of the longest lead time items for any pipeline project and needs to be on hand for installation once site preparation is complete.
Initial deliveries are planned for the Chetwynd and Kitimat areas, but Coastal GasLink says pipe will be taken by rail and truck to storage areas along the route through April, 2021.
Assembly and installation of the 670-kilometre pipeline is expected to start next summer with 390 tonnes of pipe needed to link northeast B.C. gas fields with the LNG Canada export facility near Kitimat.
Coastal GasLink says details about construction and pipe deliveries will be available on its website.
