Northwest residents will benefit from funding to provide better access to low and no-cost mental health and substance supports.
The Community Action Initiative, in partnership with the provincial government, has awarded 29 Community Counselling Grants across the province.
The Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre Society in Smithers will use its grant to hire a registered social worker to provide counselling for individuals and families, and to develop capacity at its Friendship Centre location in Houston.
The government says funding will support a broad range of mental health and substance use services province-wide, with a third of all recipients servicing Indigenous communities.
Other recipients include Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre Society, Carrier Sekani Family Services, Central Interior Native Health Society, and Quesnel Women’s Resource Centre.
