The bridge replacement project on highway 37 east of Stewart has been completed.
The Nass River Bridge has been replaced and will now be safer as well as having enhanced capacity and efficiency.
The new bridge replaces a bridge built in 1972. It will feature two lanes and wider shoulders as well as modernizing the crossing for cyclists and pedestrians.
The new bridge in combination with a realignment of one kilometre of highway 37 allows for a consistent 90km/h speed limit. An improved rest stop and a new lookout to view the Nass River Canyon are also completed parts of the project.
The total value of the project is $30.5 million including planning, design, engineering work and construction. The Government of Canada contributed $10.6 million through the New Building Canada Fund and the Government of British Columbia covered the remaining costs.
