The City of Quesnel attended the Union of B.C. Municipalities. A yearly convention for local governments to get together to share their best practices.
Two main topics were on the agenda for a Mayors’ caucus meeting, strong fiscal futures and how to address the growing opioid crisis.
Quesnel was named one of the cities that will receive funding to establish a Community Action Team. The team will develop plans and address the opioid crisis along with community safety.
The Minister of Mental Health and Addictions announced more resources for local government and the Province’s new 10-year plan to address Mental Health and Addictions is focused on early intervention and improved treatment.
“In a one-on-one meeting with the Premier I was able to deliver this same message to him, while providing him with a copy of the letters of concern from our community as well. Like his Cabinet Ministers, the Premier is alive to our concerns and a willing partner in addressing them,” said Mayor Bob Simpson.
