Dawson Creek RCMP say four people are facing charges after a stolen vehicle helped police uncover links to a rash of thefts in the Peace Region.
Police arrested two occupants of a UTV after the vehicle was reported stolen from the Toms Lake Sunday. Further investigation by the officers turned up evidence connecting the suspects to two other stolen vehicles and stolen trailer located nearby.
RCMP say a further probe has linked the suspects to several other thefts and break-and-enters from Fort St John to Grande Prairie.
An RCMP press release says 25-year-old Ryan Bumstead, 28-year-old Chelbi Hiebert, 28-year-old Hayden Raposo, 21-year-old and Lyric Grey have all been charged with multiple property and vehicle theft related offences.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked contact Dawson Creek RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
Court records from 2020 show Hiebert was not charged with property or vehicle theft related offences in relation to the incident, but had instead been tried together with Bumstead and was facing the charge of possessing a firearm without a license or registration, to which they had pled guilty, receiving a 5-year firearms prohibition, and 1-year of conditions. Bumstead had pled guilty to multiple property and vehicle theft related offences, and received jail time. Raposo and Grey had also been convicted of the charges they faced.
