Big investment coming by the Province of B.C. to help combat homelessness.
Led by B.C. housing and in collaboration with the City of Vancouver, the City of Surrey and non-profit housing providers the reports about government housing show a positive change in peoples lives when they are given a home.
“We know that it is immensely challenging for people to move forward when they don’t have housing. Our housing-first model works, giving people dignity and hope by helping them find and maintain stable homes, improving their quality of life and reducing their use of health and social services in the long term,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
Through the province’s rapid response to homelessness program, the province is investing $291 million to build over
2,000 homes.
Plus $170 million over three years for full time staffing and support services.
In two years the government has built 1,840 supportive homes, with more than 700 underway.
