A former Terrace resident is facing charges after a home invasion left a 74-year-old woman in hospital.
Prince George RCMP says a forced his way into a downtown apartment at 3 a.m. Thursday while the senior was asleep in her bed.
Police say the man attacked the woman and fled with a small amount of cash and a few other items minutes later.
RCMP were able to track down a suspect a short distance away.
Mounties say 37-year-old Phillip Christopher Wood has been charged a number of offences:
- Break & enter to commit robbery
- Robbery
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Fail to comply with Undertaking
RCMP say Wood has spent a significant amount of time in Fort St. John and Terrace.
“This is an especially despicable crime” says Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP. “To forcible invade the privacy of someone’s home is absolutely horrible. To assault the 74 year old resident is a whole other level of disgusting.”
The woman was transported to hospital by paramedics for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
