B.C.’s independent police watchdog has submitted its report on a northern B.C. police-related death to prosecutors to consider charges.
The Independent Investigations Office was called to Prince George after a man arrested by RCMP in July, 2017 died shortly after being taken into custody.
Officers responded to a call of a male “casing vehicles” and pepper sprayed a man while making an arrest.
RCMP called an ambulance when the male began having trouble breathing, but he collapsed after paramedics arrived and died a short time later.
The IIO has forwarded is report to Crown to consider charges related to use of force during the struggle with the male and in relation to allegations of obstruction of justice in connection to the deletion of video from a civilian phone.
The IIO says it will not be making any additional comment about the facts of the case now that the file is in front of the B.C. Prosecution Service.
