RCMP are investigating the death of woman in a Tŝilhqot’in community 50 km west of Williams Lake.
The North District Major Crime Unit says officers from the Williams Lake and Alexis Creek Detachment were called to the community of Tl’esqox (Toosey) shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday.
First responders found a 33-year-old severely injured woman who died at the scene, despite life-saving efforts.
Police say they arrested a local man at the scene and he remains in custody. No charges have been laid.
While the investigation is still in its infancy, our investigators believe that is an isolated incident and the community is not at risk
, said Inspector Jeff Pelley Officer in Charge Williams Lake RCMP in a news release.
RCMP have closed off two possible scenes related to the investigation, one in the community and one known as “Lovers Leap”.
We understand this reserve is a close knit community and there is bound to be information being shared amongst the members and community of Williams Lake at large,” said Staff Sergeant Todd Wiebe of the North District Major Crime unit in a release. “If you have information about this tragic incident and have not already spoken to investigators, we ask to contact either the Williams Lake RCMP or MCU and an investigator will arrange to speak with you.
