British Columbia has passed an act which will back one of its promises made in the CleanBC plan.
A portion of the climate change plan, announced earlier this year, marked the province’s intent to switch to zero emissions vehicles by 2040.
Now, the government has passed the Zero-Emission Vehicles Act to deliver on that commitment.
British Columbians already buy more zero emissions vehicles than anywhere in Canada, making up over 6 percent of first quarter light vehicle sales.
42 million dollars was earmarked for electric vehicle incentives in the province’s 2019 budget.
ZEVA, as the Act is being nicknamed, will phase in the change, requiring 10 percent of vehicles to meet the standards by 2025.
BC hopes to see 30 percent of light duty vehicles on the roads be zero emissions by 2030, and 100 percent by 2040.
