Blueberry River First Nation members and legal teams are back in court today after the province backed out of a cooperative agreement.
Thanks to thousands of oil and gas projects authorized in their territory, nearly 75 percent of it now lies within 250 metres of an industrial distrubance.
According to the Nation, this is not only harming the environment, but also their very way of life.
An agreement between the province and the Nation had given them say in resource development decisions, but the province has since pulled out.
As a result, the Peace Region First Nation is being forced to restart legal actions.
Legal council for the Nation expects the trial to take roughly 100 days, with a decision coming sometime next year.
