Heiltsuk Horizon says its first contract from the Canadian government will help boost marine safety on the B.C. Central Coast.
The business partnership between the Heiltsuk First Nation and Horizon Maritime Services will be providing tug and barge work for the reconstruction of 28 navigational aids.
Heiltsuk Horizon says the company will employ six Heiltsuk Nation members during the four to six-week project and will be looking for community participation like catering, accommodations, and water taxi services.
A unique feature of the project will include a daily Heiltsuk Heritage Moment after each morning safety meeting.
Heiltsuk Chief Councillor Marilyn Slett says the work will provide much-needed jobs and support their vision for a sustainable future that protects the ecologically sensitive waters of the Central Coast.
