A constitutional challenge and injunction filed by BC against Alberta’s Bill 12 has been delayed by one month.
More commonly known as the “turn off the taps” law, the Bill would see oil and gas shipments from Alberta to BC restricted.
Former Alberta Premier Rachel Notley first proposed the Bill, seemingly in response to BC’s dispute of the Trans Mountain pipeline project.
Newly elected Premier Jason Kenney put the Bill in to law on April 30th, prompting BC to file the injunction the following day.
Originally, a hearing was set to be held this morning, but BC Attorney General David Eby announced this morning that it would be delayed until June 6th.
If passed, exporters would need to obtain licenses giving Alberta the authority to decide how much product to ship.
