The New Relationship Trust (NRT) has announced $9.5 million over the next three years to help fund Indigenous clean energy projects.
The funding, between NRT, Western Economic Diversification Canada, and the BC government, will be allocated through the BC Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative (BCICEI).
Feasibility and site selection, environmental review and permitting, and small scale clean energy projects are some of the categories available for up to half a million dollars.
The NRT says demand for BCICEI funds is high, so projects that will receive priority for the 2019-2020 fiscal year are those that:
- demonstrate readiness and viability through completed feasibility studies / plans, assessments, agreements and/or community partnerships;
- create opportunities for communities to increase self-sufficiency, potentially generate revenue and build capacity with clean energy or energy efficiency project development including pilot projects; and/or
- support clean energy developments in remote, off-grid, diesel dependent or (end of line) community
