The Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation struck gold at this year’s Mineral Exploration Roundup.
Seabridge Gold sponsored a by-donation draw for a half-ounce gold coin at the Vancouver event.
Proceeds raised by the event were then matched by Seabridge and split between the Bulkley Valley Healthcare and Hospital Foundation at the Dr. R.E.M. Lee Hospital Foundation.
R.E.M. Lee Foundation Chair Ron Bartlett was on hand in Smithers recently to accept a cheque worth over $1600 from Seabridge Community Liaison Taryn Cutler.
Bartlett says the foundation is grateful to Seabridge Gold for the donation which will be put toward the purchase of an ophthalmic microscope to support the growing number of eye procedures in the Northwest.
The current microscope is 15 years old and Bartlett says with three surgeons, and an increasing caseload, the additional microscope will allow patients in the Northwest to receive care closer to home.
The foundation has raised $40,000 of its $150,000 goal.
