Victims of illicit drug overdoses become more financially vulnerable in the years leading to their death, according to a new StatsCan study.
That study looked in to the employment situation of the 3,128 overdose deaths in BC between 2007 and 2016.
Findings revealed that just 48 percent of men and 28 percent of women were employed in the year before their passing.
That compares to marks in the mid-70s among the general population at the time.
Just 14 percent of women, and 28 percent of men were found to have had stable employment throughout the 5 years before overdosing.
Among those who were employed, women made just 22 thousand a year on average, while mean earned an average of 42 thousand dollars.
