The City of Quesnel is forging ahead with a plan to solve its housing crunch.
With more people moving north from the Lower Mainland, seniors and young professionals looking for smaller homes, and locals in need of different housing options, Housing Committee Chair Councillor Scott Elliot says the North Cariboo housing market is pinched like never before.
The City has partnered with the Cariboo Regional District to create a Housing Needs Assessment and Gap Analysis study for the region to be conducted by Urbanics Consultants.
A steering committee of stakeholders, including the city, CRD, Northern Health, First Nations, real estate, and seniors, will be involved in guiding the consultants as they look at everything from shelter and social housing to the high-end market.
The project will look at current and projected populations, demographics, household size and income, and current and future housing units.
The assessment is expected to wrap up by October and deliver data to show where the needs are in the North Cariboo and develop a plan to fill the gaps.
More information about the assessment can be found here.
