Tŝilhqot’in Nation members and their supporters rallied outside the B.C. Court of Appeal this morning.
Inside the courthouse, the Tŝilhqot’in are seeking an injunction against a drilling permit issued to Taseko Mines Limited.
The permit, issued by the outgoing B.C. Liberal Government in 2017, allows the mining company to clear 76 kilometres of road, make 122 drill holes, and excavate 367 test pits in a culturally and spiritually significant area west of Williams Lake.
Taseko hopes to move forward with the work in order to find a way to advance its twice-rejected gold and copper mine proposal.
Earlier this month, the BC Court of Appeal ruled in favour of a permit, but the Tŝilhqot’in want an injunction to prevent the work while they seek leave to appeal the decision at the Supreme Court of Canada.
