A program to help children receive their immunizations and help curtail a mini-measles outbreak is being launched by the province.
In order to achieve what’s known as “herd immunity”, where at least 95 percent of the population is vaccinated, the province has launched their measles immunization catch-up program.
Each Health Authority will be responsible for delivering the program in a way that best suits their communities.
Minister of Health Adrian Dix explained what that means for Northern Health and the First Nations Health Authority today.
Dix says the province will initially be purchasing 3 million dollars in vaccines in this first stage of a two step program.
The catch-up program will run from April to June.
Mandatory reporting of vaccination is expected to be put in to action this fall.
