The BC and federal governments have officially launched a fund aimed at restoring wild salmon stocks across the province.
The BC Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund will provide nearly $143 million over five years for habitat restoration and to support sustainable harvesting.
The First Nations Fisheries Council took part in Friday’s announcement along with Premier John Horgan and fisheries minister Jonathan Wilkinson.
The fund is open to proposals from a wide range Indigenous groups, conservation organizations, industry, and academia.
To be eligible, projects must focus on one or more of three areas: Innovation, Infrastructure, and Science Partnerships.
More information about eligibility, project criteria and how to apply can be found at the British Columbia Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund web page.
