More than 300 First Nations leaders and partners have gathered in Vancouver for the second annual First Nations National Guardians Gathering.
Presentations and meetings will be held today and tomorrow as the Indigenous Leadership Initiative plans the next steps in creating a national guardians network.
Guardians use traditional knowledge and science to manage protected areas, and monitor development projects.
A national guardians network would support the more than 40 existing guardians programs across Canada, while driving more communities to start their own.
