Williams Lake has become the focus of a group of nearly 50 pro-animal activists speaking out over alleged “killing-contests”.
Environmentalists are calling for the Ministry of Forests and Lands to take action after a number of sport hunting contests in the interior came to light.
Now, the group have set their sights set on one such contest in Williams Lake, dubbed the “wolf-whacking” contest.
Put on by Chilcotin Guns, the contest would reward participants for teams who kill the most wolves by a set deadline.
A letter sent to the Ministry calls the contests “bloodsport”, and argue that they are against provincial regulations.
However, the Ministry says the wolf populations is healthy and self-sustaining, and, while they don’t condone the contests, there are no rules in place to prevent them.
