Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that he had been informed of ex-Attorney General Jody Wilson Raybould’s September decision not to issue SNC-Lavalin a defered prosecution agreement.
His statement comes one day after former Principal Secretary Gerald Butts testified that he had not been informed of her decision.
During the statement, issued this morning, Trudeau also said he believed Wilson-Raybould was still open to exploring other options in the case.
According to the Prime Minister, this confusion is what led to alleged inappropriate interactions between his office and Wilson-Raybould’s.
Trudeau also denied pressuring the former Justice Minister, despite her testifying earlier in the month that she had felt pressure from at least 11 members of Trudeau’s office.
In closing, the Prime Minister said that he will reflect on the lessons learned and that he believes his government will ultimately grow stronger because of them.
