Northern B.C. residents know last summer’s massive wildfires had a dramatic impact on air quality.
Now a report from Greenpeace shows just how bad the air was for three communities, particularly during the month of August.
The 2018 World Air Quality Report shows that Quesnel, Prince George, and Williams Lake ranked as the top three worst polluted cities in Canada based on PM2.5 or fine particulate readings for the year.
While the majority of months showed good overall air quality for the three municipalities, wildfire smoke in August pushed particulate levels into the “unhealthy” range and pushed the trio into the top three worst polluted in the country.
The ratings, though bad for Canada and North America, are nothing compared to consistently polluted air which plagues countries like India.
The report shows that, of the top 20 worst polluted cities in the world, 15 are located in India.
