Dawson Creek City Council could be slashing RCMP funding, even while facing an increase in crime.
According to Mayor Dale Bumstead, the city often operates on 21 or 22 officers, despite budgeting for 25.
With a 1.3 million dollar hit to the City’s budget this year, cutting funding to the law enforcement unit is a possibility.
Currently, 70 percent of policing costs are paid for by the City.
Last year, Dawson Creek saw an increase in a number of crimes, including those deemed violent.
Plans for the City’s budget cuts will be presented at their March 11th meeting.
