Williams Lake residents could be facing a minimum one percent tax increase this year.
Council brought up the increase during their regular meeting as a way to fund additional asphalt recycling and ensure the city makes its commitments on capital projects.
Overall, with assessment values increasing by 5.1 percent, this means some residents could end up paying as much as 6 percent higher in 2019.
According to the City’s financial committee, the assessment increase is actuall a good sign, as it allows the city to issue smaller tax increases.
In 2019, Williams Lake is looking at kicking off 40 new capital projects, with 20 being carried over from last year.
In total, these projects feature a price tag in the 13 million dollar range.
