Northwest residents have a chance to check out the job prospects with a multi-billion dollar pipeline development in northern B.C. today.
Coastal GasLink is holding its Economic Summit in Houston which is intended to connect local business and job hunters with contractors and sub-contractors working on the $6.2 billion dollar gas pipeline.
The project, which would deliver gas from northeast B.C. to the LNG Canada export terminal in Kitimat, is expected to generate 2000 to 2500 jobs and contracting opportunities for local business.
CGL says preliminary construction on the pipeline began in early January near Kitimat with crews poised to start work in Chetwynd next, and in the Prince George area this summer.
Work on the project near Houston has been firmly opposed by Hereditary Chiefs of the Wet’suwet’en which resulted in a temporary injunction against the Nation’s members as crews conduct work in their territory.
Today’s event is at the Houston Community Hall until 6:30 p.m.
