A new report, based on the findings of BC’s 11th Justice Summit, has been released.
Held in November of last year, the Summit brought forth 3 recommendations to improve the way the justice system works for Indigenous peoples.
Indigenous leaders, community experts, and public safety leaders were all invited to the conference to discuss the experience of Indigenous peoples with the justice system.
During these discussions, attendees brought up concerns over: the use of the Supreme Court of Canada’s Gladue Case decision, community-led justice solutions, and how to build a better system while supporting Indigenous self-determination.
A number of recommendations made at the Summit will guide the creation of a framework for how to reshape the justice system.
