New changes to court rules aim to balance out costs and results in motor-vehicle injury settlements.
Over the past 5 years, vehicle injury claims have increased by 43 percent in BC, met hand-in-hand with an increased need for expert opinions.
As a result, ICBC faced a 20 percent spike in costs related to litigated injury settlements over the past year.
Proposed ammendments to the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules Regulation will limit the number of experts and expert reports permitted in motor vehicle disputes.
For claims under 100 thousand dollars, each side of a dispute will be able to use one expert and report, for greater claims, parties will be limited to three reports.
