Prince George had the second highest overdose death rate in the province in 2018, according to a new report from the BC Coroners Service.
After registering 24 overdose deaths in 2017, the City watched that number nearly double to 46 last year.
In the same report, released yesterday, the Service said overdose deaths across the province hit 1489 last year.
Only Vancouver had a higher overdose mortality rate in 2018 than Prince George.
Experts are pinning the high mortality rate on the difficulty to access specialists in the north, combined with the City being the medical hub of the region.
