New campaign finance rules have reportedly led to a significant decrease in political party donations.
Last year, the NDP brought in new rules which capped provincial donations by individuals at 12 hundred dollars annually.
Yesterday, Elections BC released their interim financial reports, showing a meteoric decrease in the amount of money raised by each party.
In 2017, NDP fundraisers brought in over 15 million in funding, while just 3.3 million was pulled in across 2018.
For the Liberals, 2017’s 12.7 million dropped to 2.4 million last year.
Even the Greens felt a hit from the new rules, going from 1.4 million dollars in 2017, to 709 thousand in 2018.
In order to ease the transition to the new rules, parties will be receiving 2 dollars and fifty cents for every vote in the last election.
