Two public complaints investigations in to forestry practices on Haida Gwaii have now wrapped up.
One complaint surrounded a BC Timber Sales logging operation near Port Clements, while the other involved activities around a Skidegate landscape unit.
In both instances, the Forestry Practices Board found the licensees’ practices met the legal requirements of both the Forest and Range Practices Act, and the Haida Gwaii Land Use Objectives Order.
During the Port Clements investigation, the Board did develop concerns over the protection of important streams and yellow cedar.
They intend to hold discussions on whether a new approach will be needed to deal with these concerns.
In the second investigation, the Board found no faults with the building or maintenance of forestry roads around the unit.
